|Donuts hold a special place in our hearts for their sweet, soft, delicious, goodness, and Glaze Doughnuts did not disappoint. When we first entered the shop we were greeted by a rather tired worker. He seemed to be very unenergetic and kind of bored, however he took all our orders very quickly, even burning his hand a little in the process.
We bought 2 Taro, 2 Matcha, 1 Red Velvet Cream Cheese, 7 regular glazed, 12 donut holes, and a kolache. As soon as we finished ordering and left, we began to dig into our food.
When we arrived at their little shop we didn’t know what to expect. We were greeted by a rather tired worker. He seemed to be a bit unenergetic, however he processed all our orders very quickly, even burning his hand a little in the process. We bought 2 Taro, 2 Matcha, 1 Red Velvet Cream Cheese, 7 regular glazed, 12 donut holes, and a kolache. I honestly had no idea what a Kolache was, but mom said it tasted good so I was willing to give it a shot.
To the naive eye a kolache is a regular hotdog, however it is so much more. The sausage contains cheese and peppers giving it a nice spice, and the pastry was soft and buttery. The donut holes were delicious, they were soft, sweet, glazed, bite sized pieces that were definitely worth the $2. The donuts themselves varied in flavor but were all fantastic. My personal favorite was the Red Velvet Cream Cheese, cream cheese tastes great on a donut. If I had to describe it, I would say it tastes exactly how you think it does, a redvelvet donut with cream cheese, but better.
Overall this was a great experience and we’ll be coming back soon! With tasty treats on par with Krispy Kream at reasonable prices, you would be a fool not to.
|Mmmm… donuts. Or… doughnuts? However you choose to spell it, I know most of us can agree they’re yummy in the tummy!
I should tell you that my all-time favorite donuts come from Krispy Kreme, but it’s about a 15-20 minute drive to the nearest one so we haven’t enjoyed their rings of deliciousness in quite a while. #saaadface
BUT THEN… we decided to stop into Glaze Doughnuts located just a few minutes from home. We’ve been driving past this little place for almost forever! The tiny shop is squished in between a barbershop and a nail salon, so… well, we didn’t think much of it. Then we finally looked them up on Yelp, and Wow! Excellent reviews!!!
Now, let me tell you. This is a lesson in why we should NOT judge a book by its cover.
We walked into a small, empty room with a small display counter. And like Joshua said, greeted by a seemingly exhausted looking employee (these kids now-a-dayz… surrounded by donuts and all stressed out). As we were picking out which flavors we wanted, he appeared almost impatient… kinda like, “are you done yet?” Mmmhmmm…
We picked out 2 taro frosted with coconut, 2 matcha frosted with pistachio, 1 red velvet cream cheese, 7 regular glazed, 12 donut holes, and a spicy kolache. After the less than enthusiastic young man behind the counter explained that the donut holes and kolache are not included in a dozen (I guess I picked out 11 donuts so far… HOW’d we pick out so many???), he offered to heat up the kolache. Btw, the total came out to almost $25.
Anyway, the kolache was hot hot and I could’t wait for J to taste it. I recently had my first encounter with these babies during my recent trip to Houston and I LOOOOVED it! Crossing my fingers that these kolaches were just as yummeh as the one I had down in cowboy land, I watched as my child carefully took his first bite. Well, actually, he first asked, “Is this a hot dog?” oh, my sweet son… this is certainly NOT a hot dog.
And… he loved it! *phew!* … “This is delicious, mom!” Uh-huh… the bread was melt-in-your-mouth buttery and the juicy sausage was stuffed with jalapeno peppers and cheese. Yummers x 100.
The donuts were surprisingly soft and fluffy. My favorites were the glazed and red velvet cream cheese. Matcha frosting tasted JUST like matcha should and it was perfectly combined with pistachio nuts. The taro… didn’t have much of a flavor to me. Tasted like regular glazed… with extra glaze on top. The coconut on top was good though. The regular glazed donuts alone has made me a new fan… and I will no longer have to drive 20 minutes for yummy donuts!
I will absolutely be going back for more… and recommend you give them a try if you can!
Texture: If you’re a fan of the Krispy Kreme type donuts that are fluffy and soft, you cannot go wrong with Glaze Doughnuts.
Selection & Great prices: Nice selection. They have donuts under 3 price ranges… FANCY DOUGHNUTS @ $2.25 (s’mores, strawberry shortcake, maple bacon, matcha green tea, red velvet cake, etc), TASTY DOUGHNUTS @ $1.50 (cocoa pebbles, bavarian creme, cinnamon sugar, chocolate twist, etc.), CLASSIC DOUGHNUTS @ $1 (original/ maple/ strawberry/ chocolate/ vanilla glaze, glazed donuts with sprinkles, etc.), as well as donut holes (12 for $1.75), croissants @ $1.50, and kloaches @ $3.
Location (totally biased): Just down the street from me!
Customer Service: The young man working behind the counter seemed like he wasn’t very happy to be there.
07.28.17 Update: There was a different guy working this time and he was smiling and upbeat. Changed the whole atmosphere and I’ve been singing praises about this place to anyone who’d listen! Businesses srsly need to stress the importance of customer experience, especially to employees who are in direct contact with their customers.
Hours (totally biased): Mon-Sun 6:00am to 3:00pm. While I’m sure the majority of the population enjoy donuts for breakfast, I’m not a morning person and would love to enjoy my fluffy rings of sugar mid-afternoon 🙂
Glaze Doughnuts has a nice selection of soft and fluffy donuts that are delicious at great prices! If you can get past the stale, unenthusiastic energy in the shop (* see 07.28.17 update under “cons”)… as in grab and go… then you won’t regret giving them a shot!
